Jessica Snyder has that sunny personality that you would envision when listening to love songs from the Beach Boys. She is much more than your average California Girl, Jessica is an extremely talented and driven blogger, designer and owner of her very own clothing brand: Mint. With a background in pro-surfing and acting along with her established career, it’s hard to believe that she is so humble! She takes all the work ethic from her surfing days and applies it to Mint, a brand and blog that has become what she calls her “baby.” I had the pleasure of hanging out with Jessica for a day while she shopped at Graffiti Beach and styled her favorite looks to show to our readers. Plus, we got the inside scoop about what makes Jessica the passionate designer, blogger and the ambitious human being she is.

Graffiti Beach: How would you describe your fashion sense?
Jessica Snyder: I tend to go for gold a lot, accessories definitely make an outfit for me; shoes, bags, jewels - love is in the details. I've noticed I used to question a lot "Do I like this?" and over the last few years I've become a lot more confident in my choices which I think is important! I know what I like! Mix and matching, finding things that don't normally work but do, those are my favorite things about fashion!
GB: Tell us a little bit about your clothing line, what is your inspiration behind it. Why the name Mint?
JS: My line is my life haha. I have worked so hard on it. It's been so fun for me and I am excited to be coming out with more and more new pieces. As far as the inspiration, I just make things I like! It's very beachy and I guess that comes from my upbringing, growing up in California and spending so much time at the beach! Mint, is my favorite word and just popped in my head one day - [it] works out that everything is a very fresh and clean vibe.
Bamboo Sunglasses $130 / Drum Cymbal Necklace $72 / One-Piece Suit $130 / Skirt $54 - available at Graffiti Beach store - 2220 Fern St., San Diego Ca / Tote $40 / Typewriter Cuff $34 / Vintage Gold Bracelet $60 / Custom Leather Bracelet $28 / Double Knuckle Turquoise Ring $28
GB: You used to be a pro surfer and actress before starting a career in fashion. How has the change been for you? Were you always into fashion? Would you ever want to return to surfing or acting?
JS: I love surfing and I have a love/hate relationship with showbiz haha but there's something different about fashion for me. It feels more like MY thing, not something either of my parents got me into or I ever felt pressured to do. I've always just been into it on my own and loved it for as long as I can remember. So in saying that, nope not returning to either career haha. I surf for fun- and I have more fun surfing now than I ever have!
GB: What has been the most challenging thing for you since starting Mint?
JS: Um.. probably finding balance. I am a bit work obsessed. I will work until someone says stop which can be unhealthy! Everyone needs a surf break now and then! And food... and water haha.
GB: Do you have a fashion bible or style icon you look to?
JS: Miroslava Duma is my style icon!! I love her. She is so cute! And always on point. Girl crush.
GB: You didn't go to a traditional fashion school and have had such a great response to Mint! What advice would you give to someone also wanting to head into fashion but didn't have a background in fashion?
JS: I think if you really want something there is nothing that can stop you. But it depends how much you want it and how motivated you are to get it! Not going to school I've definitely had a learning curve and I'm still learning every day which is one of the reasons I love it so much. I guess my advice would be- be prepared to work hard and stay focused! Also as my best friend Megan always tells me "patience child..."- it takes time to get to where you want to be! I work on that last one every single day!
